MY CITY STYLE
Just in time for fashion week, stylist & blogger Emma Sousa dresses up her favourite bags and shows them the sights and sounds of New York.

THE SMALL PORTRAIT BACKPACK
WHY I LOVE IT:
There's nothing more chic than a structured bag and I love how efficient a backpack can be in terms of size and portability.
I like to have certain elements of contrast in most looks I create,
so I juxtaposed the boxy backpack with a casual but quintessential white tee. By rocking a new denim silhouette like the cropped wide leg and a Parisian-influenced neck scarf I turn simple basics from
0 to 60 in seconds.
We shot this at the park at Roosevelt Island. A tiny island in between Manhattan and Brooklyn, it's a beautiful spot to take in all the view. The park has some stunning architecture and big lawn that's great for lounging with friends or having a picnic. This look fits in so comfortably to this setting and is super easy/comfy to move around in.
If I could sum this look up in three words I'd say:
cool, casual, chic.
THE TASSEL COLLECTION
I immediately fell in love with this bag because of it's 70s influence with the saddle shape and tassel detail. #avintagevice Need I say more?
Playing into that 70s vibe (my dad did wear a white tuxedo on his
wedding day), I decided to rock an all white suit. In easy lightweight cotton and linens, this suited look is one that is elevated but doesn't leave me feeling stuffy. Stylist tip: by keeping the look neutral from head to toe, you elongate yourself (no matter how tall or short you really are) and let the tassels do the talking.
We shot this look in my all time favourite neighbourhood: the West Village. You haven't been to New York until you've been to here. The ambience, the people, the stores, the cafes. My first summer interning in NY I spent 3 hours wandering in the WV with no map and it was maybe the best 3 hours of my life. And just about any outfit is perfect in the WV, as long as it feels like you.
70s, fresh, relaxed.

THE PUSH LOCK
Because this bag is so perfect for day and night, I decided to match an equally transitional outfit. Maybe because I'm a 90s kid, but the black slip dress is my thing. It always works and never goes out of style. I kept it very minimalistic and added a strappy point toe shoe. Head to toe, you have a look that's cool, chic, and works for bopping around the city day or night.
I don't wear a lot of colour, but my favourite pop in an accessory is red. This bag is the perfect size and colour for just about every look from day to night.
Another one of my favourite NY areas: SoHo. It's really THE destination for shopping in NYC as it has everything from mainstream to boutique and spans a large portion of the downtown area. Cobblestone streets filled with coffee shops and one of a
kind retailers; you can find me here most days of the week.
When working and running errands, I like my look to be easy and light so a slip dress and small crossbody are the perfect
combination for just that.
minimal, light, easy.
