Travel Diaries: Covent Garden by The Frugality

Categories: Featured Bloggers,

Next up on our Travel Diaries list is the home of our very first store and one of the most iconic areas of London: Covent Garden. There’s always lots happening around here; you find something unexpected around every corner – street performers, pop up shops and lots of lovely places to eat and drink. We didn’t know where to start with listing our favourites, so we asked Alex Stedman, from style blog The Frugality to give us her tour of the neighbourhood: from where she likes to stay to where to go for the best instagram pictures. Grab a pen and take note.

Accessories addicts must head to The Cambridge Satchel Company. There is something for everyone, I love seeing all the amazing collaborations they have been involved with, from J Crew to Vivienne Westwood. Plus, I’m always a fan of anything with my initials – the personalisation booklet (including metallic lettering) blows my mind!

For me, it’s all about the Covent Garden Hotel. I love Monmouth Street in general, possibly one of my favourite streets in the whole of London, and the Hotel is heavenly – the cosy decor, the warm fires…when I was at Red magazine, my first Christmas party was in the private cinema and we watched ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’ with champagne and popcorn.

I’m a big fan of desserts, so it would have to be Laduree…just to be near all those French delicacies has me salivating. Pop into the cute cafe upstairs for a spot of afternoon tea, or just buy a few macaroons (salted caramel are my favourites) to take with you and eat when you get home. Divine.

Every time I pass the Covent Garden Academy of Flowers, I just have to take a photo. The bicycle, often filled with hydrangeas (one of my personal preferences) is just too pretty not to take a photo. I’ve had the pleasure of learning to flower arrange from the school there, as well, making it extra special.

I have sadly, only been to The Royal Opera House on a few occasion, both for London Fashion Week shows. I am yet to see an actual opera, which I am told are visually stunning and highly emotional. Carmen is showing at the moment, music I used to play in orchestra as a young girl – so perhaps this is my chance.
