Next up in our ‘A Week in The Life of” series is our Press Officer Emma Richman. Working closely with our PR agencies in London and New York and our main contact in house for bloggers and media, Emma is one busy lady. Luckily she’s also one of the most organised people we know, which helps a lot in her role. We asked her to talk her through what an average working week looks like for her and to tell us about some of her career highlights so far here at CSC (spoiler alert: it has something to do with Lady Gaga!).
I wake up around 7am and the first thing I do is grab my phone. I flick through my work emails to see whether anything urgent has come through overnight from our PR agency based in the US. Then I get up to speed on my Instagram newsfeed – I’m obsessed (it’s the last thing I look at before I go to bed and the first thing I look at when I wake up). I always check our tagged images on the @camsatchelco account to see whether any media or influencers have been posting about our bags. I pop on Radio 1 to help me properly wake up and then I’m ready to face the day

My day really varies depending on what events and product launches we have coming up. Some days we will have meetings with journalists and bloggers either in our London showroom or the Covent Garden flagship store (which always involves tea and biscuits!). Other days, I will be working on events, whether that’s celebrating Christmas in July because the monthly magazines work so far ahead that we have to show them the product so far in advance, or it might be working on the activity around a designer collaboration. That’s what I love most about my job – it is so varied so I never get bored!

I work with journalists on a day-to-day basis, helping them to get hold of images of particular products and assisting them in deciding which images will look best in their magazine or online feature. I also liaise frequently with celebrity agents and stylists, as their clients are often looking to support British brands and British craftsmanship by carrying our bags when they are out and about.
Seeing Lady Gaga carry not one, but two of our bags in one week (The Mini Poppy and Cloud Bag in Dusky Rose) has definitely been my proudest work moment to date. I can’t explain how excited I felt waking up and seeing those images online!

At lunchtime on a working day sometimes I will have a nosey round the shops in the area. Occasionally I forget how great it is that we work in Covent Garden and I take it for granted. I love Kikki K, Bobbi Brown and Paperchase so I love making the time to pop in to them. We are also spoilt for choice in terms of restaurants and cafes so as I’m sure you can imagine my bank account really suffers working here!

After work (if I’m being good) then I will head to the gym. If not, I will meet friends for dinner in Soho or Covent Garden for Thai or sushi. On the weekend I try and split my time between spending time with my family and my friends. I have three nephews under the age of 4 so I love spending time with them and try to as much as I can.
Working at The Cambridge Satchel Company is very much like being part of a family, we’re such a small team and I get to work so closely with everyone in the business. When it’s hectic we help each other (even if that just means making each other cups of tea or putting some tunes on) and when amazing things happen, we celebrate with one another. In the words of Jess Glyne, “there’s no place I’d rather be”.
