If you haven’t heard us talking about our brand new bag The Poppy – where have you been? Featured in Look Magazine this week, the Poppy has been hailed as “the sleekest arm candy on offer right now” – we can’t argue with that! To launch this brand new bag, we asked four of the most stylish, social-media savvy women we know to style the Poppy in their own way.
Enter fashion and lifestyle blogger Olivia Purvis. Her blog, What Olivia Did, is a beautifully curated corner of the internet bursting with travel guides of our favourite British cities and their hidden treasures, perfectly palleted ‘outfit of the day’s and sartorial tips a-plenty. (Take a look at Olivia’s guide to Cambridge, featuring our brand new store. Check it out if you’re planning a visit!) Olivia started her blog back in 2010 when she was still in school, originally as a creative outlet for her photography. Six years on, Olivia has been signed by Storm Vision and her blog has become a renowned destination for food, travel, music, fashion and interviews with inspirational women she admires.
When Olivia met the Poppy Backpack a few months ago, it was pretty much love at first sight – we can’t help but think they were made for each other, especially in our Dusky Rose hue. We headed to Palm Vaults for our photo shoot (Olivia’s recommendation, of course. If anyone knows photogenic cafes in London, it’s this girl!) which is one of East London’s newest gems. With its pink leather seats and giant green plants in every corner, we felt as though we’d stepped onto a Wes Anderson film set. So over pink lattes in a pink cafe with our pink bag (keeping things consistent), we snapped up the opportunity to chat to Olivia. Read on as we find out about her daily routine, how much tea she needs to get by and who inspires her most.
THE LITTLE DETAILS
My morning routine… I get up about 7:30 (depending on how familiar myself and the Snooze button are that day), treat myself to porridge with lots of honey and fruit and then walk Maggie before settling down to emails (or hopping on the train for some meetings)! It’s quite a leisurely start which is lovely (and makes me feel very spoilt).
My typical day… Differs from week to week! Some days I’ll be charging around London for meetings or shooting- others I’ll be in my comfy clothes all day styling flat-lays and replying to emails- it totally depends, but I definitely try and maintain a balance between the two.
To someone who had no idea what I did, I’d describe my job as… posting Zoolander-posey pictures of myself online and trying to be as witty as possible in 140 characters (or less).
I drink approximately 2 cups of tea a day – which isn’t as bad as I thought! I’m quite controlled…
Three things I need to have in my bag to get through the day – My Oyster card (or contactless), my portable charger and a good book for tube journeys!
I am most productive when… I should be sleeping! That, or after I’ve read other blogs- I get so inspired and just want to crack on!
The best part of my week is… winding down on a Friday. Although I’m self employed work technically never stops, but I do try and allow myself some chill time at the weekends and still try to get excited about Fridays (even if it’s just because I love Gogglebox and rubbish T.V)!
If I could only choose one social media platform to use for the rest of time, I’d choose… Twitter. Or Instagram. Twitter. Probably.
When I need to relax/switch off, I… have a big bubble bath!
THE BIG QUESTIONS
When I was younger I wanted to be… An ice skater, artist, fashion designer or vet. I wasn’t picky.
The best thing about my job is… working so closely with Joe, meeting so many amazing people, partnering with my favourite brands (AHEM) and travelling. I am very lucky.
The thing I’m most proud of in my career to date is… being able to say people actually read my corner of the internet without my parents having to pay anyone! It still amazes me that I’ve been writing it for 7 years!
Three women who inspire me the most and why:
1. My mum- for being the most hard-working, caring and selfless person I know. If I can be the friend, mum and family woman she is when I grow up I’ll be one happy lady.
2. My grandmothers- for making me laugh endlessly, showing me how precious life is and always being there.
3. My best friend Gemma. For being the strongest, admirable and kind person. She is wonder woman. (There’s also about 100 other people I’m desperate to name here but they know who they are- I’m probably Snapchatting/Whatsapping/Group messaging them right now)
If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now, I’d be… maybe ice skating? It’s what 5 year old Liv would have wanted…
If I could swap places with anyone in the world for the day, it’d be… Oh there are so many! Probably Alexa Chung though. Imagine being able to rifle through that wardrobe.
My favourite quote/motto is… Another tricky one! I have so so many but love ‘live in such a way that if someone spoke badly of you no-one would believe it’- I like to think kindness spreads kindness! (soppy, right?)
