Last week we hosted London Craft Week at our Covent Garden store. From 9-13 May over 200 established and up-and-coming artists joined forces to celebrate British creativity across various London outlets.
For the Cambridge Satchel Company it was a coming together of supreme British craftmanship, teaming up with Hand & Lock, London’s premier embroidery house since 1767.
On the day we had Karen, Hand & Lock’s talented embroiderer demonstrate goldwork. The demonstration featured embroidering a goldwork daisy for our new bag, The Daisy. So cute!
Karen explained that it would take over 20 hours to embroider one daisy. That’s a huge amount of love, attention and skill dedicated to Hand & Lock’s goldwork.
On display we had 2 one-of-a-kind Daisy bags with Hand & Lock goldwork daisies. Just how beautiful are they?!
We also had demonstrations from Cambridge Satchel’s very own Jo, head sample maker and the great oracle of all things Cambridge Satchel. Jo has worked with Cambridge Satchel for over 4 years, having previously designed corsets and theatrical costumes.
Jo hand cuts and produces the first samples of our handbags, fresh from our product designers drawn designs. What a cool job!
